Describe the facility and the change
Start with the site location, use of the facility and the reason for the work. Explain whether the project is a new installation, an extension, a replacement or a fit-out. Add the desired completion window and any constraints on operating hours.
Bring the available records
Useful starting material includes existing drawings, equipment schedules, load information, photographs and the owner’s requirements. Identify which records are current and which still need verification. Do not rely on an old drawing as proof of the current installation.
Clarify professional responsibilities
EMA states that electrical works must be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Worker. The appropriate professional responsibilities should be established for the actual scope. Confirm design, submission, supervision and testing responsibilities during scoping. A company website is not evidence of a worker’s licence or a contractor registration.
Agree the next decision
End the initial conversation with an agreed information list and a clear next step: a document review, site assessment or defined proposal. The final scope, delivery responsibilities, programme and commercial terms should be set out in the project agreement.
General project-planning perspective. Requirements and responsibilities depend on the actual project and current applicable rules.
